The first world celebration of Hemp Food Week is being held at Christchurch, which will be a week-long event where nine venues and chefs will be displaying different types of hemp dishes. Guido Loeffler, who is the entrepreneur that came up with the event idea, said that hemp is the most beneficial plant known to the human race.
Loeffler also noted that hemp provides humanity with nutritious food full of natural fiber, building materials, biodegradable plastics, and it can also help in restoring the environment.
Loeffler further said that when he started thinking of promoting hemp and the new Whakamana education institute on Manchester Street, he spoke to a few chefs who were interested in being creative with hemp in the kitchen.
In 2018, New Zealand legalized the use of hemp seed in food products since they do not induce a high and are full of nutritious content.
One of the venues in the week-long event will be showcasing hemp and honey ice cream tart topped with fresh thyme. The owner of the place, chef Alex Davis, said that before this event, they had never incorporated hemp in their cooking, but they were interested in giving it a try due to the plant’s positive environmental impact.
Davis further said that he was afraid that it would be attached to marijuana, which he is not a fan of, but after researching some more, he found that hemp and weed are different and that hemp has a wide range of benefits.
Davis made a dish in which he used milk extracted from hemp seeds and butter made from hemp. He said that he was surprised because the meal came up beautifully with a rich and creamy feel. He has served it to the customers and explained that the meal did not have THC (the psychoactive component in marijuana), and the customers enjoyed it.
Some of the other dishes showcased during the week-long event include a hemp burger made by Shaka Bros and a hemp acai bowl made by Gre3n Superfoods.
The event ends on Sunday at the Whakamana Cannabis Museum, where the guest speaker is one of New Zealand’s leading hemp chefs, Cameron Simms, who will be talking about hemp as a food. Other chefs will also be allowed to talk about their dishes.
Listed below are the nine businesses and the products they will be showcasing at the event:
- Gatherings – Hemp and honey ice cream tart with a fresh thyme topping.

(OTCQB: SING) and The Green Organic Dutchman Holdings Ltd. (TSX: TGOD) (OTCQX: TGODF), will be rooting for the success of this event since it takes the hemp industry to a whole new level.
